Frequently Asked Questions

Overview

Can I still purchase GMPP even if my vehicle is out of the original warranty?

No, to qualify for GMPP your vehicle must still be within the full original factory warranty.

Can I find GMPP at a lower price at different dealerships?

There is only one GMPP. It is same plan nationally. GMPP is the only GM extended warranty endorsed by General Motors. You can purchase it from any franchised GM dealer. You can purchase it from us and use it at any GM dealership in the country.

How long will I be covered by the original GM warranty?

The warranty for most GM vehicles is 36,000 miles or 36 months, which ever comes first, except for the following:

  • Buick and Hummer vehicle year 2006 and newer are covered for 50,000 miles or 48 months, which ever comes first.
  • Cadillac vehicles are covered for 50,000 miles or 48 months, which ever comes first.
  • 2007 and newer vehicles have a 3 year 36,000 mile between the bumpers coverage, and also a 5 year 100,000 mile coverage on the powertrain.

Wouldn’t it make sense to wait until I am closer to the end of my standard warranty before purchasing GMPP?

The longer you wait, the more the GMPP will cost. Purchasing right now will give you the longest plan at the lowest cost. Check for yourself by requesting a quote using higher mileage than your have and compare with your actual quote, and you will instantly see the difference in price and plans available. When does the GM extended warranty start? Your GMPP starts from the date that you purchase the plan and the miles are added to the odometer mileage on the vehicle at the time of plan purchase.

How long will my GM Protection Plan last?

Your plan will end at the mileage or time selected at the time of purchasing the plan. For example, a 36,000-mile plan, purchased for a vehicle with 20,000 miles, will end when the odometer reaches 56,000 miles (unless the allotted time passes first).
